The Longest Night Service – December 21, 6:30 p.m.
A brief 45-minute Longest Night Service will be held on Wednesday December 21st at 6:30 p.m. The Christmas season holds for many the vexing memories of loved ones who are no longer present. For some the full joy of the season is muted by those memories and the loneliness that accompanies them. December 21st marks the day of the Winter Solstice – the shortest day – 9:15 hrs. of sunlight. It is the day with the longest darkness. It is the day that is the prelude to the coming of the light. We will gather in the sanctuary for a service of remembrance and support. There will times for prayerful reflection, for sharing stories that bring us to smiles and to tears. There will be readings and silence and comforting music. We invite those who have recently lost loved ones or who want to remember family members and friends whose memory becomes more vivid at this Christmas season to join us for this service.
We will hold our Sunday Service on Christmas Day at 9 am.
“In the Beginning – A Journey Through the Book of Genesis” – There is deep meaning for living fulfilling lives found in the narratives in Genesis. In our six or seven weeks of sessions, we will study the sacredness of creation; the stories of human nature found in the garden, the sibling rivalry and tower stories; the covenant with God in the stories of Noah and Abraham and Sarah; and the covenant journey with Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Please join us Wednesdays at 7:00. The group sessions will be about 1:15 minutes in length.
The Congregational Church of South Dartmouth will hold a Special Congregational Meeting on 1/8/17 following worship at 11:00 am.
All church members and friends are welcome to attend the meeting. There will be childcare provided.
