Our Relationship to UCC and Congregational Polity

The United Church of Christ is composed of Local Congregations, Associations, Conferences, and the General Synod. Our congregation is a member of the Old Colony Association, a regional gathering of local congregations of the United Church of Christ, of the Southern New England Conference, a gathering of United Church of Christ congregations within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and a member of the United Church of Christ, a gathering of Associations and Conferences in the national setting of the United Church of Christ.

The United Church of Christ is a bottom up structure, with each local congregation being responsible for its own governance and having its own autonomy. Each member of the congregation has a voice and vote in matters of congregational governance.

However, we are in covenant relationship with all other United Church of Christ Congregations, Associations, Conferences, and the General Synod of the United Church of Christ. We take our relationship with each of these settings of the church seriously and hold in highest regard all actions, decisions, and advice emanating from the General Synod, a Conference, or an Association of the United Church of Christ.

All members of our congregation are members of the United Church of Christ.
